A new hotel and spa has opened in a 1920s era Victorian mansion in Valparaiso, Chile.
Palacio Astoreca is owned by Swiss-Chilean entrepreneurs Vincent Juillerat and Francisca Joannon. The boutique hotel, which opened following a US$5m (£3.1m 3.9m euro) renovation project, features 23 guest rooms furnished with antiques from the Santiago and Valparaiso regions.
Designed by Alvano and Riquelme architects, the hotel features art by contemporary painters such as Ricardo Yrarrazaval and Frederic Clot.
A key feature of the hotel is the Palacio Astoreca Spa which features a covered pool, a hammam, a massage room and a hot tub heated with firewood. It also houses a steam bath and a heated indoor pool.
Spanish Chef Sergio Barroso - who previously worked at Ferran Adria's El Bulli - runs the main restaurant, Alegre.
The hotel also houses a wine cellar, which holds a selection of wines from vineyards in Chile and also South American countries.
Other facilities include a piano lounge bar and a library.
