The Vitala Group is back on track with the development of its two leisure parks in Turkmenistan. The projects have been delayed because of the conflict in neighbouring Afghanistan. Originally due to open this year, the parks in Ashgabat and Nebitdag, are now scheduled to open in 2004. The group was approached by the Turkmenistan government in 1998 to develop the two state parks and has designed a zoo and botanical gardens in Ashgabat, and an outdoor FEC, waterpark, go-kart area and retail centre in Nebitdag. The group has just finalised the financing for both parks to the value of $84m and remains the largest investor in the consortium with around $30m. A number of Russian banks and US pension investment funds complete the consortium.
