Hilton Worldwide has expanded its presence in Beijing with the opening of the Chinese capital's first Waldorf Astoria.
The 176-room hotel joins Waldorf Astoria Shanghai on the Bund as the brand looks to make its mark in the booming China market.
Operated by Hilton and owned by China Oil & Foodstuffs Corporation (COFCO), Waldorf Astoria Beijing will soon feature a spa and fitness centre, with a heated indoor swimming pool.
Not due to open officially until April, the facility will be operated as a Waldorf Astoria Spa, drawing strongly from local cultural influences.
Seasonal therapies will be blended with traditional Chinese medicine philosophies at the spa, which will feature seven treatment rooms, each equipped with a private rainforest shower and bathroom. Treatments available include traditional Chinese medicine massages and Oxygen Facials by Intraceuticals, which target ageing and congestion and have attracted celebrity followers including Madonna, Eva Longoria, Naomi Campbell and Justin Timberlake.
The spa will also feature products from Valmont and Aromatherapy Associates. Located in the heart of the city, the hotel sits on the former site of Xianliang Temple, which was the permanent residence of Li Hongzhang, the first Chinese guest to stay at the Waldorf Astoria New York.
Interior designs were crafted by architects and engineers at Yabu Pushelberg Landscape, while the hotel is lavishly decorated with a multi-million dollar art collection.
Guests' gastronomic needs are catered for by three in-hotel restaurants – Peacock Alley, Brasserie 1893 and Zijin Mansion – while business travellers have 796sq m (8,568sq ft) of function meeting space at their disposal.
