The head of the National Gallery, Neil MacGregor, has been appointed as the new director of the British Museum. 'Neil MacGregor has been an outstandingly successful director of the National Gallery, and I am confident that he will lead the British Museum with equal distinction in the run up to our 250th anniversary in 2003, and beyond,' said chairman of the trustees of the British Museum, Graham Greene. MacGregor will take over from Robert Anderson in August 2002.
