AMC is to open a 16-screen multiplex at the Great Northern leisure and shopping development in Manchester this month. The £100m, 10-acre new complex, which is set to fully open next Spring, already has a number of developments up and running including a Virgin Active Pure Fitness club, a PerSia restaurant, History Expresso and a Bar 38. Joint developers Morrison Merlin Ltd has created an open-air amphitheatre, an 18,000sq ft atrium and transformed a Victorian railway goods warehouse into 70,000sq ft of leisure and retail space. Shoeless Joe's is due to open its first bar/club/restaurant concept outside of London at the development early next year, and Hilton International will start work on a 4-star hotel opposite the site next spring.
