Glasgow's £75m Science Centre on the banks of the River Clyde was officially opened by the Queen last week, following a weekend of record admissions. The Millennium Commission attraction, which has been opened in stages, was given an official opening ceremony, after 2,000 members of the public had visited the newly completed Science Mall in its first weekend, and a further 1,100 visited the IMAX theatre. The Science Mall forms the main body of the centre, alongside the IMAX theatre and the landmark 100m, rotating Glasgow Tower. The IMAX theatre has been open since October last year, and has attracted in excess of 100,000 visitors. Chief executive, Paul Smith, says the visitor figure speaks for itself: We are very happy with these early figures. The people of Glasgow have voted with their feet and early feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.
