Taransay, the deserted Scottish island used to house the BBC's Castaways during 2000, is set to become a tourist attraction. The weather-beaten island in the Western Isles region was uninhabited for several decades until the Castaway project that saw 36 men, women and children live on the island for one year. Following the TV exposure, the location is being relaunched as a holiday destination by its landowner, Angus MacKay. MacKay, whose family has owned the island since 1967, has converted the only house into a six-bed cottage, and also converted the schoolhouse used in the programme into a holiday cottage, both with running water, heating supplies and electricity.
