Crown Sports has bought the Trainstation chain from the 3i Group with a listing on the London Stock Exchange expected shortly. The £6.2m acquisition is a step closer to the company's year-end goal of achieving 100,000 members, according to chief executive Steve Philpott. It follows acquisitions in April of the 14-strong Fitness Express chain, for £3.4m and Axis Health and Fitness, owner of four clubs, for £8.94m. Trainstation comprises three clubs in the north-west with an annual turnover in excess of £3m and a total membership of 8,800 since opening in the last three years.
