Male elephants that carry tourists to the Amber Fort in Rajasthan are to be taken out of service in November because of high sex drive. Elephants have carried people to the fort since its construction in the 16th century, but recent problems with the nine male members of the 97-strong elephant team have forced owners to retire them. The bulls' aggressive tendencies whilst in rut cause them to fight with each other, and their over-zealous advances towards the females are putting tourists at risk. Last year a female elephant was killed by a bull whilst carrying two Japanese tourists.
