A Six Senses Spa has recently been added to the Penha Longa Hotel & Golf Resort in Portugal, in the final stage of the resort’s US$20m (£11.3m, 16.4m euro) renovation programme.
The 1,500sq m (16,100sq ft) spa features two dry treatment rooms, two wet treatment rooms, two Thai massage rooms and three relaxation areas, as well as a couple’s suite and a facial suite.
Within the spa’s secluded landscaped garden, there is a whirlpool, plunge pool and wading pool, a waterfall, two gazebos for treatments plus a platform over the pool for Thai Chi and Yoga.
Signature treatments, which use natural ingredients from the surrounding hills of Sintra, include The Cloisters, which comprises a cooling eucalyptus footbath, a body exfoliation using ground olive kernels, a long stroke massage and a scalp massage.
Other products are supplied by UK-based Aromatherapy Associates. Treatments include Essence of Eden, which is a relaxing massage treatment focusing on the feet, face and hands.
The Penha Longa resort, which is set within a 545-acre national park and operated by Ritz-Carlton hotels, encompasses a 177-room hotel, a nineteenth century palace and two golf courses. Details: www.sixsenses.com
