Sheraton Hotels & Resorts has opened its £140m Fota Island Golf Resort & Spa in Cork harbour, Ireland.
The resort, six miles from Cork City, features a 131-room hotel and a spa. The PGA-endorsed golf course – home of the Irish Open in 2001 and 2002 – has been provided with an additional nine holes “of championship standard” and a further 250 residential lodges will be ready by the end of the year.
The spa boasts 17 treatment rooms, three beauty rooms, a hydropool, a walking river, a gym and a swimming pool.
The resort is Sheraton’s second Irish property and will be managed by Sheraton on behalf of County Cork-based developers Fleming Construction.
John Fleming, managing director of Fleming Construction, said: “The new hotel and extensive spa facilities will really add to the appeal of this part of Ireland for leisure, incentive and conference business.”
