Speedflex sets sights on in-gym training studios
POSTED 08 Apr 2015 . BY Jak Phillips
The Speedflex concept uses the Speedflex machine and a number of other variables to create an alternative to regular gyms and exercise classes
Circuit-based group training concept Speedflex will launch a new £400,000 studio within Newlife Fitness in Laurencekirk, Aberdeenshire, as the company seeks to expand its footprint in the UK health club sector.

Speedflex Europe, which counts football legend Alan Shearer among its backers, already has several UK studios and the investment in Newlife Fitness will mark the first time a Speedflex studio has opened within an existing gym environment. The company is eager to capitalise on the rampant popularity of high intensity interval training (HIIT) and is actively seeking suitable studio spaces within existing gyms nationwide, as well as the possible acquisition of entire clubs.

Due to open to the public in April 2015, the new 2,400sq ft (223sq m) studio in the independent Newlife Fitness gym will deliver Speedflex sessions using the unique Speedflex machines and circuit, offering members an alternative to conventional exercise. In addition, the studio will offer a comprehensive health assessment service to all users.

A Speedflex spokesperson told Health Club Management the company had identified attractive synergies between itself and Newlife Fitness. “It is anticipated that the opening of Speedflex will increase the membership base of Newlife Fitness,” the spokesperson said. “Anyone who joins Speedflex will have access to all the gym facilities, but existing members of Newlife fitness will have to upgrade their membership in order to use Speedflex.”

The Speedflex concept uses the Speedflex machine and a number of other variables, including heart rate monitoring and personal training, to create a unique alternative to regular gyms and exercise classes, which is accessible to anyone.

“We are delighted to team up with Newlife Fitness and bring Speedflex to Scotland” said Speedflex Europe chair Graham Wylie. “We believe we have created one of the best group training concepts in the world. With growing popularity and an expanding membership base, we look forward to giving as many people as possible the chance to improve their health and fitness with Speedflex”.
