PPG Industries' Accu-Tab pool chlorination system has proved a big hit with operators since being installed at a South Wales recreation centre.
The Bridgend Recreation Centre's pool consists of a main 390cu. m. pool with a tiled beach area and a maximum depth of 1.8m, along with the first Aqua Gym pool in Wales. The Gym - 1.2m in depth and at a temperature of 30?C - provides aquatic exercise, mainly for the over 60s, and although separate from the main pool, shares the same body of water.
Water chlorination had originally been done using the traditional method of daily adding granular calcium hypochlorite into a mixing tank and using a mechanical stirrer to dissolve the granules before injecting the solution into the pool water.
Following the installation of an Accu-Tab 3075 Chlorination Unit the process now consists of refilling the unit with tablets every three to four days, an improvement which Pool Manager Karl Paterson describes as 'little short of life changing'.
Accu-Tab 3in calcium hypochlorite tablets are shipped in 25kg pails, are easy to store and handle and have a long shelf life. The system is reported to be as accurate as gas, more consistent than sodium hypochlorite and automatically delivers the level of chlorine needed.
A further benefit is its low maintenance requirement, with the erosion chlorinators having no moving parts or small openings to clog, and the feeder comes with a lifetime guarantee. The system can suit virtually any application, size and chlorine demand, be it indoors or out.
Certikin International is the exclusive UK and Republic of Ireland distributor for Accu-Tab, working through a network of specialist dealers.
