Willmott Dixon has secured four leisure centre projects worth £35m as part of a DC Leisure-led team selected by Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council to design, build, operate and maintain the centres over 32 years.
The company will start work on three schemes in July, with the fourth beginning in December. It is the second PFI deal that DC Leisure and Willmott Dixon have worked on, following that involving the Xcel Centre in Walton-on-Thames, Surrey, which opened in August last year.
The four facilities will provide 16,147sq m of new leisure space in Rotherham. The largest contract, in Maltby, is worth £13m and also involves providing a new two-storey council office, providing a one-stop shop function for public services including housing, social services and education, plus a GP health centre.
The three other leisure centres are in St Ann's, Aston and Wath. St Ann's, worth £10m, is a flagship facility that is part of the town centre's renaissance and includes a 25m five lane pool and a 25m leisure pool with lazy river.
All the centres have swimming pools with moveable floors, fitness suites, dance studios, gym equipment and squash courts.
Three projects will be completed by end of 2008, while the Maltby project (pictured), which is in two phases, will be finished in November 2009.
