The Celino Hotel – once an oceanfront playground for mid-century Hollywood starlets and supremos – is on track to open to the public this spring in Miami's Ocean Drive neighbourhood.
Co-designed by Space4Architecture (S4A) and Navigate Group, the recently renovated resort – erstwhile the Park Central Hotel – will feature 132 rooms, a rooftop pool, fitness centre, indoor and outdoor bars, in-room spas services, and two restaurants.
The building, the result of a $110m (€95.5m, £86.3m) rehaul of three Art Deco properties, dates to 1937.
Reportedly, the hotel was also where the conga line – a 1940s Cuban dance later popularised by American actor Desi Arnaz – was first conceived.
In a statement, Navigate Group said their design "stays true" to the Celino's artistic and Floribbean roots by incorporating soft pastels, white natural stone, whitewash wood, and brass.
Speaking on the project, Ricardo Tabet, CEO of Optimum Development – which is spearheading the property's renovation – commented: "Our vision is to provide a memorable guest experience that pays tribute to Miami's vibrant, illustrious history from the 1940s, with a modern and sophisticated twist."
Once complete, the Celino will be the largest hospitality development in Ocean Drive's history.
