The National Trust is to leave its historic London home and set up a new single central office in Swindon, Wiltshire. The move comes as part of the conservation charity's bid to boost the quality of its service and improve communications by bringing experts currently based in four offices together under one roof. The search for a permanent site is underway, and in the meantime a temporary office for staff from London, Cirencester, Westbury and Melksham will be established. The decision to relocate has been made as part of a wider organisational review of the charity's management structure, the first major change for 33 years. The move to the new headquarters is due to take place by 2004.
