Superbreak Mini-Holidays has reported a strong recovery since the effects of rail disasters, the foot and mouth crisis and the 11 September terrorist attacks. The company has recorded a 24 per cent increase in bookings last year compared with 2000. Superbreak rail inclusive breaks were up 15 per cent during the last quarter of 2001, while bookings to London also picked up since late October and during the first two weeks of December increased by 36 per cent year on year. November bookings for York were up 250 per cent, Dublin by 107 per cent and Edinburgh by 89 per cent on 2000. The last year has certainly been challenging for us and I am delighted that we have traded through it and that the market has remained resilient, commented Ian Mounser, Superbreak's sales director. Mounser says travel agents have been very supportive: During the last three months they have heightened their emphasis on promoting UK short breaks. There is no doubt this has had a positive impact on sales. Superbreak says it expects to see overall sales across all products from travel agents grow by at least 15 per cent in 2002.
