Theme park characters making the jump to TV

While many popular IPs from television and film make their way into theme parks, one pair of animated characters are set to do the reverse with India’s Tubbby and Roberto set to star in an animated television series.

Tubbby – a flying elephant – and Roberto – a lioncub who works as a chef – have entertained guests since the launch of Adlabs Imagica last year in west India's Khopoli, and now will appear on Indian television as a kids show.

Popular IPs such as Harry Potter, the Marvel universe and Disney characters are just a few examples of those who’ve successfully made the jump into theme parks, but not many can say they’ve gone in the opposite direction.

The theme park’s ride featuring Tubbby – who bares a striking resemblance to Disney’s Dumbo – sees individual carriages in the shape of Tubbby rise up and down on a ‘flying’ merry-go round platform, while Roberto’s food coaster restaurant sees a tray of food arrive, served on a mini-roller coaster before stopping right at the pick- up counter.

Adlabs Imagica is India’s only international standard theme park and features 26 attractions and five themed restaurants, including a ride based on the Bollywood film Mr. India, India's biggest floorless roller coaster, and a 300-bedroom hotel and waterpark.
