GLL's COVID protocols chosen as best practice by the Cabinet Office

The Cabinet Office has chosen leisure operator GLL as the "face" of England's COVID-secure physical activity facilities.

The social enterprise's approach to COVID-19 protocols and training currently represents the leisure sector on the Cabinet Office website.

In addition, one of GLL's operations managers, Pam Radley, has been chosen to front a Cabinet Office video, which the government department has shared across its social media accounts, including Twitter.

The video explains the measures put in place at GLL's Better-branded leisure centres in order to keep customers and staff safe.

"The measures also enhance our visitors’ experience and is an important part of securing the confidence of our customers to return to their preferred activities – which is crucial to our business," said CEO, Mark Sesnan

While the government has yet to announce a set date for the reopening of gyms and leisure centres, it is unlikely to be before 8 March.

Boris Johnson has said that he will set out the strategy for the “gradual and phased” easing of lockdown in the week beginning 22 February.

The Welsh government has already announced that it wants to open gyms first after lockdown, as it recognises the "amazing difference that keeping fit can have on someone's health".

A parliamentary petition looking to achieve the same in England has attracted nearly 180,000 signatures and can be signed here.
