Stargazing and camel trekking will be on offer at Six Senses’ new desert retreat

Six Senses has confirmed its desert resort and spa in the Arava Valley, Israel will open in June.

Located in the Negev Desert, Six Senses Shaharut will be a modern reinterpretation of nomadic structures, reminiscent of the Nabataean community which occupied the area over 2,000 years ago. The resort’s design preserves the unique characteristics of the site.

The 60 suite and villa resort will include a 2,000sq m Six Senses Spa with an outdoor relaxation pergola, indoor and outdoor pools, Turkish hammams and saunas, with five treatment rooms, including two for couples.

Guests will be offered locally-inspired massages, facials, wraps, scrubs and rituals – treatments which combine different sensory experiences to balance, re-energise and relax.

In-house experts will measure and analyse key physiological biomarkers in order to provide guests with lifestyle and nutritional advice, as well as a personalised programme of spa treatments, fitness and wellness activities.

All spa treatments will be supplied by local brand Lavido and French product house Biologique Recherche. Six Senses has also collaborated with Fashionizer Spa to create bespoke spa uniforms designed in a pink-beige hue reminiscent of the surrounding sands.

“Six Senses Shaharut marks a new milestone for the brand as it enters yet another unique destination,” said GM Manish Puri. “This new opening will bring the Six Senses ethos of sustainability, local sensitivity, and wellness together with this region's desert culture and traditions.

“With a passionate team, we’ll work to create out-of-the-ordinary guest experiences in a setting of biblical proportions,” he explained.

The wellness offering will be complemented by activities including sunrise yoga workshops, stargazing, hikes, and desert camel treks along the ancient Incense Route which was used by traders from the seventh century BC to the second century AD.

Other facilities will include an Earth Lab and an open-air amphitheatre, as well as an alchemy bar, gym, retail boutique and a studio with desert views suitable for group and private yoga, meditation and stretching sessions.
