Nicki Kurran Spa Consultancy has teamed up with interior designers Dennis Irvine Studio and leisure consultant SMC Leisure to form SDK Spa Developments, a firm that delivers a holistic approach to spa design, positioning and operations.

The trio worked together on the design, operational setup and opening of The Langley In Buckinghamshire, UK, which features a 1,600sq m subterranean spa.

They felt that combining their skills as a cohesive unit would offer clients a team approach to "delivering world-class spa projects".

Kurran has spent 30 years in the spa industry, beginning as a therapist and progressing through corporate roles at destinations such as Marriott Hanbury Manor and Champneys Health Resort. Her experience in new builds and refurbishments range from leisure, fitness and medical facilities as well as bedrooms and F&B outlets.

Kurran was also recruited as spa consultant for the recently opened £10m Carden Park Spa project in Chester, UK.

Kurran told Spa Business: “the individual skills of SDK Spa Developments offers a complete solution to clients combining our knowledge in business, strategy, design and operational expertise to deliver beautiful, functional and profitable spas.”

Dennis Irvine Studio specialises in interior design for hospitality, residential and leisure projects for global clients. The multi-disciplinary team creates luxury projects, ranging from private residences to spas and hotels for clients such as Marriott Luxury Collection, Rosewood Hotels and Resorts and The Dorchester Collection.

“Working together to understand, develop and execute the client vision, we bridge the gap between design and operations to create successful and functional projects,” explained Irvine.

“Our balanced team and wide range of expertise ensures we deliver a product which not only exceeds expectations but delivers a successful and profitable spa,” he said.

John McGuiness of SMC Leisure has 25 years’ senior management experience within the sports, hospitality and leisure industry. McGuiness has previously worked with Four Seasons, Starwood, Hilton, Marriott, Jumeirah and Virgin Atlantic to create destinations within hotel, resort and club environments, as well as previously working as a director for the Champneys Group
