BTA invites partners for on-line marketing drive
19 Dec 2001 . BY ....
After making a plea for people to sell Britain to their overseas friends and family (L. Opps 6 November), the British Tourist Authority (BTA) has targeted 30,000 UK companies in a bid to harness marketing initiatives in a Come to Britain campaign.

On 15 January, the BTA will launch a £5m campaign, underpinned by a range of what the BTA hopes will be 'unbeatable offers', encouraging overseas visitors to travel to Britain 'NOW'. Under the working title of 'Come to Britain', the campaign will be primarily targeted at seven key international markets: Germany, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Ireland, USA and Canada.

Any UK tourism business - prepared to make a special offer to overseas visitors for a limited period - can be included and promoted on a section of the BTA's VisitBritain website. Initial offers for inclusion should be registered with the BTA by 21 December, but further offers will be welcomed thereafter for ongoing promotions.

Jeff Hamblin, BTA's chief executive, says the initiative will provide a 'significant' route to international markets for small to medium enterprises: We'll be putting in all of our marketing muscle to promote Britain as a destination of choice; with the industry's help we can make it an even more attractive destination.
