Culture Secretary, Tessa Jowell, is seeking new marketing initiatives to promote Britain's historic environment as 'the heart of contemporary life'. Speaking at the launch of the government's new review The Historic Environment: A Force for our Future, Tessa Jowell said she wanted to increase community involvement in the historic environment. There are already a lot of good things happening. We want to increase this still further. We will look at how we might promote free access for children to historic properties. But more needs to be done. We need to find new ways of involving people and communities who may feel the historic environment has no relevance to them, she said. The review paper looks at what can be done to develop the potential of the heritage sector including policy guidance and delivery - ecommending ways in which organisations can work more closely together.
