POSTED 10 Nov 2017 . BY Tom Walker

Edition, the boutique hotel brand created by entrepreneur Ian Schrager in partnership with hospitality giant Marriott International, has revealed plans to open seven new hotels during 2018.

Describing the next 12 months as a “pivotal” year in the development of the brand, Marriott said the number of properties in the Edition portfolio will increase from four to 11 by the end of 2018.

The first new launches of 2018 will see Edition open a 147-bedroom hotel in Shanghai, China and a 155-room property in Bangkok, Thailand.

They will be followed by the 99-bedroom Edition Bodrum in Turkey and the 100-room Edition Barcelona in Spain.

During the year, Edition will also open its first property in the Middle East, with the launch of the 244-bedroom Edition Abu Dhabi in the UAE.

There are also two new properties planned for the US – at New York’s Times Square and West Hollywood, California.

Four of the new hotels – Bodrum, Bangkok, Abu Dhabi and Hollywood – will feature large spas.

“All of the Edition hotels are unique, original and one-of-a-kind, embedded with a sense of time and place,” said Ian Schrager.

The boutique luxury brand was unveiled in 2007 and opened its first hotel – designed by architects George Yabu and Glenn Pushelberg – in November 2010 on Waikiki Beach in Hawaii.

The seven new Editions to open during 2018 are:

The Bodrum Edition
The hotel, located at the western point of the Bodrum peninsula, features 99 guest rooms, suites and villas all with views of the Aegean Sea — some with private pools, balconies and gardens. The hotel’s spa will include an infinity pool, garden lounge, Turkish hammam and a health club.

The Bangkok Edition
The Bangkok Edition will be housed in Thailand’s tallest building, located along Bangkok’s Naratiwat Road. The hotel will feature 155 guest rooms, a day spa with four treatment rooms and a health club.

The Abu Dhabi Edition
The Abu Dhabi Edition will be situated close to the Abu Dhabi Marina. The hotel features 244 guest rooms and 57 exclusive residences. Facilities will include a large spa with seven treatment rooms, a signature restaurant and a health club.

The West Hollywood Edition
The West Hollywood Edition will be located on West Sunset Boulevard will have 190 guest rooms, a rooftop pool and a spa with four treatment rooms.

The Shanghai Edition
Located close to the iconic waterfront area The Bund, the hotel will offer accommodation in two separate towers, featuring a total of 147 guest rooms. Facilities include 10 levels of public space for meetings, a member’s club bar, an indoor nightlife venue and a rooftop bar.

The Times Square Edition
Located at 701 Seventh Avenue on the corner of 47th Street, the property will feature 457 guest rooms with four levels of public space, including a 5,000sq ft performance venue.

The Barcelona Edition
The Barcelona Edition will be located in the Ciutat Vella District on the edge of El Born District, featuring 100 guest rooms, a signature restaurant, a swimming pool and a health club.
