Trump's Aberdeen golf development to take off again

Donald Trump is progressing with long-delayed proposals to expand his hotel and leisure development at Menie Estate, Aberdeenshire, which currently hosts the five-star Trump International Golf Links.

Trump has submitted new planning applications, which cite Architecture and Design Scotland (A+DS) at the project's designers. The new plans include the construction of hundreds of houses and nearly 2,000 holiday homes and lodges, in a major step towards completing the project that was first unveiled nearly 10 years ago.

The new plans include 850 residential properties and 1,900 ‘leisure accommodation units’, to be built in a series of phases over a number of years. Trump also submitted plans for a 400-person capacity ballroom and banquet hall, plus a 30-room staff accommodation building.

There are also proposals for the Mary MacLeod Course – the second 18-hole course on the site, which has been designed by Martin Hawtree, who also designed the resort's Championship Course – which opened in 2012. A new clubhouse is due to open in May 2015.

The Trump Organisation has been struggling to stop the nearby construction of a £230m European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre (EOWDC). The case is making its way through the Inner House of the Court of Session in Edinburgh, however Trump insists the court challenge will continue “as long as necessary.”

The case is expected to be fought in the UK Supreme Court and then in the European courts if the Inner House does not decide in favour of the Trump Organisation.
