Lythe Hill Hotel officially opened its Amarna Health, Beauty and Fitness Spa earlier this month.

The four-star Haslemere hotel spa is purpose-built on four levels with an Egyptian theme and boasts a 16x8m swimming pool and whirlpool bath, gym, sauna, steamroom, cold temple shower, beauty treatment relaxation rooms and a five-star hair salon.

Speaking at the opening, Virginia Bottomley MP told guests that the new spa would not only improve quality of life for people living locally, but was giving a 'tremendous boost to tourism in the area'. Her views were echoed by Alan Britten, chair of the English Tourism Council, who was also present and said that the British spend £8bn a year on health tourism - 17 per cent of which (£1.4bn) is spent in the UK.

Amarna spa was officially opened when Virginia Bottomley MP pushed Lythe Hill's general manager, Kevin Lorimer, into the pool.
