POSTED 01 Oct 2018 . BY Lauren Heath-Jones
Champneys will invest £10m on the redesign of Mottram Hall, £5m of which will be spent on the redevelopment of the spa

Mottram Hall gives our brand a broader geographical spread with a presence in the North-West
– Stephen Purdew, owner of Champneys
Leading spa group Champneys has expanded its property portfolio with the acquisition of Mottram Hall in Cheshire.

Purchased from real-estate investment company Aprirose, Mottram Hall is a Grade-II listed building. It was built in 1721 by Nathaniel Booth and was converted into a hotel in 1940. It has been part of the QHotels portfolio since 2014.

Champney's has planned a £10m refurbishment programme, with £5m being spent on the redesign of the existing spa facilities.

The new spa will feature 18 treatment rooms, as well as a 20m swimming pool and new wet and thermal experiences.

In addition, the company is planning to expand the hotel to include 30 more bedrooms, as well as new conference facilities and an extension to the clubhouse on the Championship golf course.

The renovation is expected to be completed by the end of next year.

"Mottram Hall gives our brand a broader geographical spread with a presence in the North-West," said Champney's owner Stephen Purdew.

"It's a fantastic property and we're delighted to be adding it to our collection of properties within the Champneys Group. We're now planning a considerable investment property which will take place over the next year," he added.

Alan Whitely, MD of Champneys, said: "It's our ambition to make Mottram Hall the number one destination hotel and spa resort in the North West."

Gary Jones, COO at Aprirose, said: "It has been a pleasure working with the team at Champneys. Mottram Hall is a fantastic asset which they will no doubt evolve to the next level. We look forward to developing our relationship further with Champneys in the future."

Deirdre Billing, general manager at Mottram Hall, said: "I'm delighted the investment from Champneys will allow us to strengthen our offering and continue to position Mottram Hall within the luxury spa market."
