Edinburgh Leisure backs Transplant Games
POSTED 05 Sep 2007 . BY
Edinburgh Leisure gave its full support to the 2007 British Transplant Games, which took take place across the city at the end of July.

The athletics, badminton, table tennis and volleyball competitions were held at Meadowbank; the canoeing on the pond at Craiglockhart Sports Centre; and the swimming competitions at the Royal Commonwealth Pool.

The not-for-profit trust offered to host and staff seven of the Games’ competitions at a significantly reduced cost.

Chief executive Keith Jackson said: “I have long been an admirer of the fantastic work that the Games’ organisers, Transplant Sport UK, carry out across the country and was delighted to offer our full support to the event.”

Last year, some 2,800 lives were saved or dramatically improved thanks to the generosity and courage of donors and their families and this year’s Games aimed to encourage even more people to give the ‘Gift of Life’.

Chairman for the 2007 British Transplant Games, Lynne Holt, added: “All our Scottish partners worked so hard to make this the best Transplant Games yet, with Edinburgh Leisure, among others, offering overwhelming support.

“Edinburgh provided the perfect setting to help us raise awareness of the importance and value of organ donation in a fun and exciting way.”
