A new five-star resort and spa in Portugal’s popular Algarve is hoping its array of wellness offerings and close proximity to the region’s famous golf course will prove a winning combination for families and couples.

Officially launched this week, the Macdonald Monchique Resort and Spa is set in the Serra de Monchique mountains and sits a short drive from The Algarve’s glut of high-end golf courses.

The wellness proposition of the resort – operated by Macdonald Hotels & Resorts – centres around the Sensorial spa.

Offering a range of individually tailored treatments from ESPA, as well as treatments from local brand Monchique Cosmetics, the spa makes use of the thermal water which springs from the nearby mountains. As well as seven treatment rooms, other facilities include a rock sauna, sensorial showers and an aroma grotto.

Elsewhere, the 185-suite resort features four restaurants, a state-of-the-art fitness centre and a kids club for children aged 4 to 12, along with a family swimming pool and a children’s playground.
