The 550sq m medi-spa will have two floors of treatment spaces for therapies focused on rehabilitation and physiotherapy.
This new space joins the existing 1,200sq m Neró Spa that opened in 2019, which Apostoli also designed
Terme Preistoriche Resort and Spa in Montegrotto Terme, Italy, is due to open an additional wellness clinic designed by Alberto Apostoli and his team in Q4 of this year.

The new medical area will be called Neró Clinic: Wellness Revolution and it won’t be the first time Apostoli has worked with the thermal spa resort to design its wellness features.

He designed the property’s existing 1,200sq m spa called Neró Spa, which opened in 2019.

Known for its approach to wellness architecture, Studio Apostoli also created a collection of zero-emission suites in 2023 and is working with the resort to redesign the property’s 47 guestrooms and upgrade the dining spaces.

Neró Clinic: Wellness Revolution

The 550sq m medi-spa will have two floors of treatment spaces for therapies focused on rehabilitation and physiotherapy.

Angela Stoppato, CEO of Terme Preistoriche Resort and Spa, said: "Neró Clinic - Wellness Revolution is the scientific counterpart to Neró Spa. Here, sensorial and thermal experiences are seamlessly integrated with personalised clinical pathways, functional medicine and specialised treatments. We aim to usher in a new era of thermal and medical culture – establishing a holistic, multidisciplinary wellness ecosystem centred on the individual."

The design draws inspiration from the resort’s Art Nouveau architecture and is intended to broaden the spa’s appeal to more diverse clientele seeking medical and health-focused services.

The materials used include dark wood panelling, wallpaper with natural motifs with etched metal trim accents. The effect is a cocooning and serene environment.

The reception desk, waiting room seating and other furniture have been custom-designed in organic shapes, echoing the circular decorative lighting and adding to the relaxing atmosphere.

The treatment rooms will have minimalist interiors, with surfaces finished in decorative porcelain stoneware and textured wallpaper. The treatment rooms have metal and glass partitions that separate to provide private access to the surrounding 50,000sq m Colli Euganei Regional Park.

Alberto Apostoli said: “This facility is the result of complementary layers, with harmonious additions over time.

“It is now defined by a new piece, shaped by the latest wellness technologies,” he added. “Through this, we’ve expressed our design vision for Terme Preistoriche Resort and Spa – a place we know well. It’s a place of wellbeing, not only through its services and offerings, but also in the way it integrates into the surrounding landscape’s morphology with care and respect.”

The existing Neró Spa

The existing spa has five massage rooms and two face treatment stations, two hand stations and three ayurveda therapy rooms.

A range of treatments is on offer, including ayurvedic rituals alongside traditional experiences from South America and Japan.

There’s a Finnish event sauna, a Turkish bath, a hammam, a Kneipp path with experience showers and a saline pool for flotation therapies.

There is also a Temazcal (a circular dome-shaped building with ancient origins in pre-Columbian South American civilisations). This structure has cedar wood seats that provide warmth and a natural wood fragrance.

Within the spa’s relaxation room, there is a low circular bench and a central table from which herbal teas and infusions can be enjoyed while keeping the legs in a basin. This is called a Kotatsu – a Japanese cultural tradition.

In addition to two outdoor thermal pools and two indoor pools equipped with whirlpools and waterfalls, the total water course measures more than 500sq m.
