Architecture firm Melt Design Hub have created what they describe as a ‘third space between home and work’ – a lifestyle club in London’s Notting Hill neighbourhood, which will be the first in line for a series of global concept openings.

Set to open in March 2018, Cloud Twelve Club is situated over three floors and 1,000sq m (10,764sq ft) and includes a holistic spa, and a state-of-the-art alternative medicine clinic, as well as a children’s indoor playground and learning and development programmes.

Lisa Barden has been the spa and wellness consultant for the project, bringing vegan and natural products and treatments, along with Eastern spa influences.

“We wanted to create a ‘haven in the city’, centred around creating precious family moments, mindfulness, luxury and somewhere to provide a smart blend of both holistic and scientific treatments taking the best of both Western and Asian philosophies, which are also reflected in the spa partner selection,” said Barden.

Barden has brought Comfort Zone, Organic Pharmacy and Tri-Dosha treatments to Cloud Twelve Club, for their shared views on wellness and their commitment to the environment.

"We have taken our time in carefully selecting our club partners as not only did they need to be aligned with our values but also share in our commitments to (wherever possible) using vegan products, working with companies who have considered their impact on the plant and demonstrate their support to ethical and sustainable practices," said Barden.

The building is comprised of five integrated but different environments, with spaces brought together through a series of changing scenes or experiences.

The spaces have been designed to offer the feeling of escape, providing parents with support and relaxation and offering children inspiring places to learn through play and imagination.

Design features use a broad range of materials, including hand-carved, bespoke timber and stone from Bali and gold-leaf Italian mosaic. Abstract Hanami patterns from Japan envelope the interiors of the building, creating the sense of sitting under a cherry blossom.

An organic, vegan brasserie will be overseen by chef Stu Henshall, founder of The Alternative Kitchen.

“We are very passionate and committed to the Cloud Twelve vision,” said Asif Iqbal, Melt Design Hub’s design director. “It has been exciting and challenging combining the seemingly disparate functions of the brief into one place – creche, play space and spa. However, through lots of discussions with our client, careful development of the design, and rigorous testing of ideas, we feel we have create a synergistic and seamless environment that will set a new benchmark for the design of members’ clubs.”
