Spa development plans for Mombasa Serena Beach Hotel

The Mombasa Serena Beach Hotel in Kenya is set to undergo a major renovation, which will include the creation of a new Maisha Spa – Maisha meaning ‘life’ in Swahili.

Due to the construction works the hotel will be closed from 1 May until 30 June and will reopen on Saturday 1 July 2006.

The spa is expected to be completed and open by September 2006. It will be situated next to the sports centre on the hotel grounds and measure 1,800sq m (19,375sq ft).

Facilities at the spa will include four single treatment rooms and two divisible treatment rooms all with their own shower amenities, two plunge pools, two saunas, two steamrooms, a yoga/meditation room and a hair and beauty salon.

The attached sports centre has two squash courts and four tennis courts, as well as a gym consisting of two treadmills, two exercise bikes and two steppers, all supplied by Technogym.

The estimated cost of the spa development at Mombasa Serena Beach is about US$700,000 (£400,000, 590,000 Euro) and aims to attract, both local and international guests,

The company has no immediate plans to open further spas but may consider them for its other properties in East Africa in the future.
