TDIC unveils new Abu Dhabi hotels
POSTED 27 Jan 2010 . BY Pete Hayman
More than 1,200 new hotel rooms have been unveiled in Abu Dhabi after the Tourism Development and Investment Company (TDIC) confirmed the completion of three new hotels in the region.

In addition to the new Qasr Al Sarab resort in the Rub' al Khali (Empty Quarter) desert, which was unveiled in late 2009, TDIC has worked alongside joint venture partners to deliver the Traders Hotel, the Fairmont Al Bahr and Park Rotana Abu Dhabi.

Traders Hotel, the result of a joint venture between TDIC and Al Jaber group, is run by Shangri-La Asia and features 301 bedrooms and suites, conference facilities, a hair and beauty salon and a shopping arcade. The property first opened in August 2009.

The Fairmont Bab Al Bahr, which was developed by a partnership between TDIC and the Al Fahim Group, is Fairmont Hotels and Resorts' first site in Abu Dhabi and boasts 369 bedrooms, two outdoor swimming pools and restaurants.

A 2,500sq m (26,910sq ft) Willow Stream Spa - scheduled to open in July - will offer guests a range of signature treatments, as well as including a Turkish Hammam, men's and women's nails tudios, a relaxation area and a fitness centre.

Meanwhile, the 318-bedroom Park Rotana development was launched in December 2009 as the result of a partnership between TDIC and Al Mada Tourism. Facilities at the property include conference and events areas, a range of restaurants and a gym.

An outdoor swimming pool, six treatment rooms, a steamroom and sauna and a floodlit tennis court are also among the facilities, which will also be available to residents of the Park Arjaan serviced apartments adjacent to the hotel.

TDIC chief executive officer Lee Tabler said: "TDIC is at the forefront of Abu Dhabi's growth and development, and the hotel openings reveal the strong position TDIC has achieved since since its inception in 2005."
