Thermae 2000 lifestyle resort to open new prevention care centre in 2015
POSTED 10 Apr 2013 . BY Aoife Dowling
Thermae 2OOO - situated in Valkenburg, South Netherlands - has plans to open a prevention care centre as a satellite to the wellness resort, next to the academic hospital in Maastricht in 2015.

Following its transformation in 2010 from a wellness centre to a lifestyle resort, Thermae was approached by The Academic Hospital Maastricht, one of the largest of the country, to develop a facility to prevent sickness.

Living Lab Limburg, being developed by The Academic Hospital Maastricht and Thermae, will consist of a new three-storey building located adjacent to the hospital.

Thermae will present its lifestyle coach concept and provide lifestyle advice for disease prevention.

The lifestyle coach concept was developed during its transformation from a wellness centre to a lifestyle resort. A range of health care professionals will be on offer to help guests with movement, nutrition, relaxation and spirituality.

The existing Thermae 2000 offers a short test where lifestyle coaches can determine acid level in a guests total body.

With this the coaches make a health programme to improve guests overall wellbeing. This is expected to also be available at the new facility.

Thermae will also run the restaurant, which will have a strong focus on nutritional education. Staff and chefs will be trained to explain to guests the effect food content has on the body.

Municipality of Maastricht, University of Maastricht and Academic Hospital Maastricht will choose around 25 health prevention professional companies to occupy bases in the living lab.

Robert Teulings, general manager of Thermae 2OOO said the wellness business is embracing healthcare organisations sooner than everyone was expecting.

"This is caused by the fact that healthcare is having to change its cost structures rapidly while wellness seeks a larger market share to survive.

"Patients have very high expectations with regard to receiving the best care, and this means both hospitality and Healthcare companies must exceed where quality is concerned."
