Urban spa opens at Hyatt Regency Birmingham
POSTED 28 Jun 2006 . BY Sarah Todd
A £1m new urban spa called Amala opened on 24 June at the Hyatt Regency hotel in Birmingham city centre, UK.

Boasting a full-sized hammam linked to a therapy room with a heated marble slab for body treatments, there are six further treatment rooms at Amala, all equipped with hydraulic massage couches.

One massage couch has also been designed specifically for pregnant women, with a special support for the baby’s bump. There is also a suite with full wheelchair access.

One of the other suites will be dual therapy, enabling two people to enjoy treatments at the same time.

Therapies have been created around four key elements – clarity, rejuvenation, illumination and relaxation – with each element focusing on the senses and general physical wellbeing.

Individual treatments will include facials, Indian head massage, Hopi ear candles, reflexology, Reiki, mud envelopment and massage.

Amala’s signature therapy, the Hammam Signature Ritual, takes place in a private steam treatment room and features a full body scrub, a mud mask and a head, scalp and pressure points massage.

Amala will be the exclusive UK spa stockist of the Californian product range Kerstin Florian.

Specialist teas have also been sourced for Amala’s Tea Lounge, which provides an area for pre- or post-treatment relaxation.

Designed by Stuart Wilsdon of Wilsdon Design Associates, Amala will join the hotel’s existing health and fitness facilities, which include a gym, a swimming pool, a sauna and a spa pool.

The Birmingham spa is Hyatt Regency’s 71st spa to open around the world, although a Hyatt Regency spokesperson said there were currently no further plans to roll out the Amala brand around the rest of the UK. Details: www.hyatt.com
