I created The Class 14 years ago to explore the alchemy of the body and it’s been a gift to watch it resonate with people across the world

Designed for all levels of ability, guests at certain Viceroy properties will have the opportunity to do six in-room video modules
Each class starts with a grounding warm-up to centre breath and presence
Repetitive movements that build strength and endurance follow and optional emotional expression is encouraged
Guests of select Viceroy Hotels and Resorts now have access to exercise sessions provided by The Class – a music-driven somatic movement practice founded by Taryn Toomey.

Toomey developed the method in 2011 to regulate the nervous system and release “stuck” energy by moving the body. The Class is offering Viceroy guests a series of video lessons led by trainers, which combine movement, breath, music and sound release to nurture a mind-body connection.

Designed for all levels of ability, guests at certain Viceroy properties will have the opportunity to do six in-room video modules and some exclusive on-property experiences will take place later in the year.

Each class starts with a grounding warm-up to centre breath and presence. Repetitive movements that build strength and endurance follow – with familiar exercises such as squats, burpees and jumping jacks. Breathwork is incorporated into the programme and optional emotional expression is encouraged via a release of sound.

The videos will be on-demand so that guests can practice when they need to – in their rooms after a long flight or throughout the day.

Toomey said: “Bringing The Class to Viceroy Hotels and Resorts is a beautiful meeting of intention – two brands rooted in creating spaces that invite presence, depth and meaningful experience. I created The Class 14 years ago to explore the alchemy of the body and it’s been a gift to watch it resonate with people across the world.

“With this partnership, we’re offering guests something deeply needed in travel – the ability to land in the body, reset the nervous system and reconnect. Whether navigating jet lag, arriving in a new place or simply wanting to feel more grounded while away from home, these practices are short, intentional and designed to meet you exactly where you are.”

The class options are as follows:

• An Introduction to The Class – 3 minutes
• The Class Morning Practice – 40 minutes
• The Class for Jet Lag – 30 minutes
• The Class for Tension Relief – 25 minutes
• The Class for Sculpt & Stretch – 30 minutes
• Post-Travel Reset – 15 minutes

Jessica Luzzi, senior VP of brand marketing, Viceroy, said: “Viceroy set out to create a wellness experience designed to meet the modern traveller’s needs – something that helps guests reset, recharge and reconnect from the moment they arrive to when they return home. Through our partnership with Taryn Toomey and The Class, we are introducing a powerful new dimension of wellness – one rooted in intentional movement and the art of being present. Together, we’re giving our guests a one-of-a-kind, in-room experience that is as enriching internally as it is externally.”

The Viceroy properties with access to The Class

The video programme will debut at the following properties:

• Viceroy Chicago, US
• Viceroy Washington DC, US
• Viceroy Snowmass, US
• Viceroy Santa Monica, US
• Viceroy Los Cabos, Mexico
• Viceroy at Ombria Algarve, Portugal

Expanding beyond the screen, The Class recently hosted a special pop-up in-person retreat at Viceroy at Ombria Algarve, Portugal, with future events to follow at yet-to-be-disclosed locations.

Viceroy at Ombria Algarve

This Portuguese property launched its 144sq m spa earlier this year with eight treatment rooms, a thermal pool, beauty outlets (hairdresser and barber) and a fitness centre.

Spa consultant Greg Payne developed the concept for the spa, which is rooted in love and connection. The spa has been designed to create stillness and programming emphasises fostering connection.

The signature treatment is a 120-minute Ritual of Love therapy that can be experienced individually, in a pair or in groups. The two hours revolve around heart-centred practices that encourage acceptance, intention and embracing oneself. The techniques used to achieve these states include breathwork, sound therapy, hot stone massage, body scrubs and hot herbal compress therapies.

In July, the property will introduce a three-night retreat programme called The Path to Love that will be available all year. Guests are invited to experience the connection-focused treatments at the property, take part in yoga, meditation and enjoy nutrient-rich macrobiotic meals.
