The 2003 Bar Entertainment and Dance Association awards for club and bar operators took place on 28 September.
Billed as a celebration of the finest venues in the UK, the BEDA awards have a history that spans a decade while BEDA also acts as an advisory body for sectors of the entertainment industry including streamlining licence conditions, developing late night transport systems and minimum pricing guidelines.
2003 winners included The Syndicate in Blackpool for Club of the Year, Bar Risa/Jongleurs in Birmingham for Bar of the Year and Oceana in Kingston (BSE) for Regional Club of the Year for the south.
Owned by Luminar Leisure, Oceana Kingston was praised by the BEDA judges, who said it “offered customers a genuine choice of experience and takes multi-room venues to he next level”.
Other regional award winners included Egg for London Club of the Year and Plan B for London Bar of the Year with bars and clubs in Lancaster and Bournemouth also picking up regional honours.
In Scotland, City in Perth won the BEDA Club of the Year award while Manager of the Year was awarded to Morven Stewart of Strathclyde SU while Installation of the Year went to Orkney’s Fusion venue. Details: www.beda.org.uk
