Barnsley Premier Leisure is investing £200,000 in a new changing village for Barnsley’s Metrodome.
The revamp, which began on 24 April, includes new cubicles, lockers, showers and signage, as well as improved disabled access.
Michael Hirst, marketing manager for Barnsley Premier Leisure, said: “The Metrodome is one of our most popular venues and the development of a new changing village is much needed as the high attendances mean that the facilities are affected greatly by wear and tear.
“This investment will mean that summer visitors to the venue will have new, fresh and better equipped areas to get changed in comfort.
“As well as new signage and better lighting the changing village will also offer better piece of mind with improved security and CCTV in open areas.”
The work is expected to take until mid-July. In the meantime, swimmers are using the dry side changing facilities, where extra lockers have been installed and a carpeted walkway laid to reach the pool.
“We strive to encourage the local community to focus on health and fitness as a leisure activity and the new changing facilities will further improve the quality of our offering,” said Hirst.
“We look forward to welcoming customers to the new changing village in time for the school summer holidays.”
Barnsley Premier Leisure manages 11 venues across the borough.
