Heinz Schletterer, ceo and owner of Schletterer GmbH, the leading international spa planning and design consultancy and global player for more than 20 years, shares his comments on trends and success in the spa business.
He says: "In order to be successfulboth in terms of customer satisfaction and profit, spa operators need to be innovative and relevant. We have to understand what drives guests in the future and how we can start today to meet those future requirements."
One most noticeable future trend is the move towards integrating health care in a spa setting. There will always be a place for general pampering, but the future opportunities for spa development lie in serving the needs of an increasingly health-conscious market. Spas that offer a range of treatments for preventative health and wellbeing mark an exciting way forward for the industry.
Schletterer meets this trend by integrating innovative and health-oriented special spa equipment and spa solutions, such as special health-enhancing steam bath experiences making use of the power of various minerals, herbs or salt, or holistic treatment concepts such as Holistic Cocooning.
Figures show that medical and health spas have higher occupancy rates and are more profitable than conventional spas - a mere eight per cent of the 72,000 spas worldwide are medical spas, but the medical spa segment achieves 23.1 per cent of the total turnover worldwide.
Schletterer has developed its own innovative health and wellness brand – IQCURE - which combines a holistic approach to medicine with distinct wellness, spa and medical fitness features as well as a strong recreational approach.
The IQCURE philosophy focuses on prevention and the durable elimination of the causes of diseases. Medical, curative, recreative and sustainable aspects blend to form a unique holistic 'healthness' experience - catering for the rising international demand for health tourism products and the tendency among guests to combine holidays with health related activities.
