British skincare company Elemis has released its new Pro-Collagen Hydrating Cleansing Mousse.

The brand has created this mousse because it says traditional cleansers in this format leave the skin feeling dry and tight.

The new formula contains a trio of hydrating ingredients to provide a lightweight product to remove impurities, make-up and SPF without drying the skin.

These ingredients include Padina pavonica ferment, a brown fan-shaped algae found on the Mediterranean coast. This organism has a high polysaccharide and glycosaminoglycan content to help attract and retain moisture. These properties have been incorporated into the mousse via a fermentation process.

Deep sea water sourced from Noirmoutier Island, France, is another of the ingredients in the new cleanser, enriched with minerals.

Inulin, a natural prebiotic extracted from the European plant known as chicory root, is also incorporated into the mousse for its hydrating properties.

Elemis says the new formula is clinically proven to increase skin hydration by 125 per cent after just one use, based on a study of 21 people.

Noella Gabriel, CEO and co-founder, Elemis, said: “At Elemis, we always make skin health our top priority and that’s why cleansing should be the first step in your routine to ensure a balanced microbiome.

“With the launch of the long-awaited Pro-Collagen Hydrating Cleansing Mousse, we’re introducing a beautiful cloud-like texture to our cleansing library,” added Gabriel. “Combined with clinically proven ingredients, this is a high-performance cleanser that deeply cleanses and hydrates without stripping the skin or disrupting its delicate microflora.”

The brand says the cleanser is ideal for daily use for a single cleanse, or as part of a double-cleansing routine in combination with the brand’s Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm.

A 125ml tube of the cleansing mousse has a retail price of £48 (US$61, €56).
