Sustainable Spa Operations - Green is a good look for spas
17 May 2017 . BY Dean Fox
 /
In our lives, and in our businesses, we make choices every day that impact the environment. For every aspect of the spa business, there are ways to reduce the impact on the environment and bring positive contributions to the community.

Instead of printing wellness intake forms or terms and conditions for each client, utilise electronic intake forms. Not only are you reducing the amount of paper used each week, you don’t have to file or retain the completed intake forms, reducing the footprint needed for physical document storage.

Mobile devices can reduce paper consumption in other ways. Let staff view their schedules on a tablet or mobile device instead of printing out daily schedules. This conserves paper as well as providing the most up-to-date appointment information.

Utilise your software to share product recommendation instead of writing on a paper card.

Emailing receipts and using email for marketing promotions can also save a lot of paper for any spa.

There are more than 20,000 spas in the US alone; if each spa can reduce its paper use by one ream a week, the larger impact would reduce paper consumption by more than seven million reams of paper each year. That would save 438,000 trees.

These suggestions are incremental environmental improvements, and spas can use them to drive their sustainability efforts. In addition, spas have a lot of options to go green, such as adopting recycling and composting programmes or building green spas and installing solar power. These initiatives enable spa providers to use their energies for healing and renewal, instead of environmental harm and waste.
