Travelodge plans both domestic and overseas expansion developments, following franchise deals with Jarvis Hotels, to run a 98-bedroom hotel at Glasgow Airport and First Motorway Services, to operate 103 bedrooms under the Travelodge brand. The brand, with a portfolio of 214 hotels nationwide, plans to take the brand into Europe after securing sites in Spain and will focus on key travel hubs and city centre developments in the UK.. 'As a company we have a clear vision for growth. Within the next 12 months we will have added another 1,000 rooms to the network', commented managing director, Simon Turl. The European hotels will be built on the outskirts of Madrid and Barcelona with openings scheduled for summer 2003. Simon Turl believes the Travelodge and is now well placed to develop partnerships: 'The product is one that is relatively straightforward with a consistent offer across the entire estate. It lends itself to franchise as well as to development overseas.'
