Canary Wharf will host the UK's largest health and fitness centre, with the opening of the Reebok Sports Club London next year. Under plans announced by Sportsplex International Ltd, Lakeshore Athletic Clubs and Reebok International Ltd, the 100,000sq ft club will occupy three floors of Canada Place, a five storey building under construction on the east side of Canada Square in Canary Wharf. The club aims to attract around 10,000 members and will offer extensive facilities including a fully equipped gym, a Junior Olympic lap pool, basketball, soccer and volleyball courts and a 13m rock climbing wall. Other facilities include a health and spa centre, a full service restaurant and café and a concierge service for flowers, dinner reservations and theatre tickets. The chief executive of the Canary Wharf Group welcomed the announcement: We are delighted that Canary Wharf will be the first location in the UK for a Reebok health club. The scale and range of facilities being provided will be a major attraction to the rapidly expanding number of people who live and work in the area. Langdon Wilson Architects has designed the club which will act as a testing centre for new fitness programmes and an education teaching environment for Reebok University Master Trainers and other fitness professionals. Similar sites are already located in New York City, Madrid and Sao Paulo.
