Forte Village’s Acquaforte Spa receiving nature-inspired makeover
POSTED 30 Mar 2022 . BY Megan Whitby
The inspiration behind the facility refresh is strongly influenced by nature
Sardinian resort Forte Village is revealing its refreshed spa and wellness facility next month after undergoing a large-scale redevelopment programme costing €2.5m (£2.1m, US$2.8m).

The destination’s Acquaforte Thalasso & Spa is anchored by six seawater pools – varying in salinity levels and temperature – and set in a beachfront sub-tropical park and gardens.

All areas of the 7,000sq m spa have been renovated including the thalasso circuit, entrance, herbal tea bar, 20 treatment rooms, changing rooms and gym.

The inspiration behind the four-month refresh was rooted in a desire to connect guests with nature and its wellbeing benefits.

The spa team worked with architecture firm Studio di Sandro Sergi e Luca Andreoni to execute this by implementing skylights to let in more natural light, incorporating a soothing new water fountain and increasing glass surfaces to encourage the reflection of water and light.

Acquaforte Thalasso & Spa has also been updated with a large number of trees, herbs and plants around the facility, giving a further sense of connecting with nature.

In addition, the design process involved all-natural materials, including wood, granite and travertine – a type of terrestrial limestone often found deposited around mineral springs. Biancone di Orosei, a natural light beige marble native to Sardinia, has also been used.

The refurbishment of the Thalasso pools includes a new waterfall in front of the cave in pool six, as well as the addition of new swan neck jets, showers and air hydromassage beds.

Guests can continue their wellness journey at the renovated Forte Lab and Diagnostic Centre at the spa.

Specialising in muscular and osteoarticular pathology, spinal complications and sports medicine, the medical team helps individuals discover new training methods and achieve tangible results during their stay.

To celebrate the new spa, Forte Village’s medical team has devised a series of personalised treatments and programmes. Each one starts with a comprehensive medical check-up to gauge guests’ health status and help plan the most effective treatments.

Programmes on offer target insomnia, digestion, anxiety, muscle pain, water retention, posture and hypertension.

Forte Village
Forte Village is owned by Sardinia-based hospitality company Progetto Esmeralda and is managed by CEO and general manager Lorenzo Giannuzzi.

Giannuzzi also recently opened an expansive medical wellness retreat in Fiuggi, Italy, in 2021.

Originally opened in 1970 as a holiday club, Forte Village gained international status in the 80s and 90s with the addition of pools, a spa and thalassotherapy centre, making it innovative and ahead of the times.

Voted the world’s leading resort 20 years in a row by the World Travel Awards, the family-oriented Forte Village comprises eight hotels, 21 restaurants, the services of several Michelin-starred chefs, a shopping arcade with 33 shops and a wide array of activities oriented to sun and sea.

Although it’s only open for six months of each year, Forte Village generates a turnover of around €100m pa (US$111.6m, £84.8m), with an EBITDA of close to €40m (US$44.6m, £33.9m).
