Fifa suspends Sepp Blatter, Michel Platini and Jerome Valcke
POSTED 08 Oct 2015 . BY Jak Phillips
Sepp Blatter has been a controversial figure during his time at the head of Fifa
Football's world governing body Fifa has announced that it has provisionally suspended president Sepp Blatter, secretary general Jerome Valcke and vice-president Michel Platini for 90 days.

Fifa's ethics committee handed out the punishment which means they are banned from any football activity in the interim. The committee is investigating Blatter, Valcke and Uefa president Platini over corruption allegations, which all three have denied.

"The adjudicatory chamber of the ethics committee chaired by Hans-Joachim Eckert has provisionally banned Fifa president Joseph S. Blatter, Uefa president and Fifa vice-president Michel Platini, and Fifa secretary general Jerome Valcke (who has already been put on leave by his employer Fifa) for a duration of 90 days," said a Fifa statement.

"The duration of the bans may be extended for an additional period not exceeding 45 days."

Blatter – who has run Fifa since 1998 – is also currently the subject of a criminal investigation by Swiss prosecutors, suspected of signing a contract that was "unfavourable to Fifa" and making a "disloyal payment" to European football chief Michel Platini.

The Fifa ethics committee also opened an inquiry into Platini over the €2m (US$2.25m, £1.35m) payment – which was made nine years after the 60-year-old carried out consultation work for Blatter.

Meanwhile, the ethics committee has banned former Fifa vice-president Chung Mong-joon for six years and has fined him 100,000 Swiss Francs (US$102,674, €90,889, £67,000).
