Luxury lifestyle hotel brand 1 Hotels has announced it will add a New York property to its portfolio in February 2017.
1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge, designed by local architecture studio Incorporated, is located at Pier 1 on Brooklyn Bridge Park, just south of the iconic river crossing.
Designed following LEED guidelines to reflect the brand’s commitment to “environmentally responsible hospitality,” the 10-storey property features extensive use of reclaimed materials, including the original heart pine beams from a disused sugar factory, walnut from the Brooklyn Botanical Garden and pine flooring from the Old Crow Distillery in Kentucky.
Brooklyn artisans including Uhuru, Bien Hecho, Harrison Green and Danielle Trofe, will incorporate native greenery and recycled materials in a selection of dynamic art sculptures and a massive living green wall in the lobby.
Meanwhile, the 194 guest rooms will feature native trees and filtered water taps.
"The 1 Hotels brand aims to show sophisticated travellers they can live well, do good, and respect the community around them while helping each other create a greener world," said 1 Hotels founder Barry Sternlicht. "As our first brand new development, 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge is the true realisation of our vision for 1 Hotels and quite possibly the best hotel I have ever done.
“The Brooklyn community is known for their vitality and innovation in health, wellness and eco-friendly practices."
Leisure amenities at the hotel will include a gym, four dining venues, 20,000sq ft (1,850sq m) of meeting and event space, and a green-covered rooftop infinity plunge pool and bar with views towards the Statue of Liberty and the Manhattan skyline.
A ground floor ballroom features a full façade of collapsible doors and windows that open onto the park, creating a space to accommodate up to 1,000 guests. The publicly-accessible facilities will be used to host indie movie screenings, art workshops and group meditations for the community.
The hotel will also feature a Bamford Spa – a UK-based import focused on organic treatments – and a yoga and barre studio. Much like Bamford’s other spas, it will be rooted in a commitment to caring for the mind, body and spirit, and will be based around a strong connection to nature.
1 Hotels launched in 2015 with the opening of exclusive properties in Miami's South Beach and Manhattan's Central Park. The brand is a joint venture between Starwood Capital Group and developer Toll Brothers City Living.
In addition to the opening of 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge, 1 Hotels is working on the development of three new sustainable properties, including its first international location, which will be announced shortly.
British lifestyle and wellness brand Bamford has expanded internationally, opening its first
Haybarn Spa outside the UK at 1 Hotel & Homes South Beach, a nature-inspired luxury
lifestyle hotel and residences.
The Global Wellness Institute (GWI) has released promising new research on the wellness real
estate market at its third-annual Wellness Real Estate & Communities Symposium in
Manhattan.
Paul Hawco, a seasoned figure in the international wellness industry, has assumed the role of
executive director – integrated wellbeing at independent, hospitality group Banyan Group.
The Ritz-Carlton Reynolds, Lake Oconee in the southeastern US state of Georgia is celebrating a
new milestone after unveiling its newly renovated 27,000sq ft destination spa.
Art’otel, Radisson’s contemporary art-inspired lifestyle hotel brand, has strengthened its
presence in London with a new hotel in Hoxton fusing art, design and hospitality.
Himalayan Source has launched the Himalayan Salt Capsule to help spa, wellness and fitness
facilities or residences upgrade their offering with halotherapy. [more...]
