The city-state of Singapore will have an official fitness industry association from 2021.

A group of industry professionals have teamed up to form the Singapore Fitness Alliance (SFA), which will be tasked with promoting the sector and supporting those working within it.

SFA will look to bring the industry together, highlight the benefits of exercise in improving public health and "create value for all".

Sean Tan, director of the True Group, has been named president for the first two year period. True Group is one of Asia’s largest fitness and wellness groups with businesses in Fitness and Yoga across four brands – True Fitness (with True Yoga as a sub-brand), Yoga Edition, TFX and GFX.

Tan will be supported by a board made up of nine industry leaders.

Among the board members is Andrea Bell, chief support officer at Anytime Fitness Asia.

"What an amazing time it is to be in the fitness industry," Bell said.

"We are at the forefront of preventative healthcare and are best positioned to fight all disease with fitness.

"Together, we have an opportunity to educate and promote health & fitness, especially now when it is forefront in the minds of our consumers and our governments.

"At a time when we are all struggling the most, both personally and professionally, there is no better time to be collaborating together for the benefit of everyone involved.

"I'm truly honoured and grateful to be included in this inspiring group of leaders to support the Singapore fitness industry under the newly established Singapore Fitness Alliance.

"As a woman on the board I look forward to positively representing women in the fitness industry too."

Others on the board are:

• Adrian Wee, managing director, F1 Recreation Pte Ltd
• Anil Chugani, Country Manager, Fitness First Singapore (part of Evolution Wellness Holdings Pte. Ltd.)
• Anthony Tottman, Former MD, Fitness First SE Asia
• Chris Richards, MD, Middle East and APAC, Ultimate Performance
• Peter Thew, Co-Founder, Yoga Movement
• Ross Stewart Campbell, Founder and CEO, FIT Summit
• Sam Canavan, Managing Director, APAC, ClassPass
• Valencia Yip, Senior Manager, Active Life

SFA will launch a dedicated website before the end of 2020.
