First glimpses revealed of Mandarin Oriental, Mayfair's subterranean spa retreat

Mandarin Oriental will open its second London outpost in Mayfair in early January 2024
Complete with 50 guestrooms and 77 private residences, the hotel will be home to a luxury underground spa retreat
Spa partners will include Swiss Perfection, Seed to Skin Tuscany, OTO and Aromatherapy Associates
Mandarin Oriental says the spa will be a sleek and stylish nature-inspired wellness space that draws on the greenery of Hanover Square
Luxury hotel and spa operator Mandarin Oriental’s second London hotel will launch next January with a brand new spa designed as a boutique sister location to its flagship UK spa at Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park.

Open to hotel guests, residents and the local community, the underground wellness retreat at Mandarin Oriental Mayfair will welcome its first guests in early 2024.

Facilities will include an indoor heated swimming pool, a sauna, vitality pools, experience showers, steamrooms and a gym.

The spa’s interiors have been designed by Tokyo-based design studio, Curiosity – also the team responsible for designing the hotel’s public spaces.

The vision was to create ‘a hub of nature and art’ and Mandarin Oriental says the result will be a sleek and stylish wellness space that draws on the greenery of Hanover Square.

Spa guests will be welcomed by a striking sculptural green Ming marble reception desk and an earthy palette of natural materials – wood, stone and warm bronze – with candle-like lighting.

The spa menu
The wellness menu will consist of traditional therapist-led treatments combined with binaural acoustic and dynamic stimulation designed to synchronise with brain waves and induce a meditative, relaxed state.

NAD+ vitamin-boosting IV infusions will also be on offer.

Signature programming will include two exclusive experiences inspired by the local surroundings – a four-handed Tranquillity of Mayfair massage therapy and a signature Elegance of Mayfair facial.

The spa will be partnered with Swiss Perfection, Seed to Skin Tuscany, OTO and Aromatherapy Associates.

Wellness beyond the spa
In addition to the treatments and therapies offered at the spa, the hotel has also partnered with Bodyspace which will provide a suite of hyper-personalised lifestyle performance services.

With a focus on improving longevity and quality of life, Bodyspace brings together a network of global practitioners in fitness, nutrition, health technologies, science and medi-wellness to deliver transformational lifestyle performance programmes.

Concepts include personal training, a digitally connected Pilates Reformer, a multi-function fitness centre, swimming and fitness assessments, nutritional consultations, physiotherapy and compression therapy by NormaTec – technology used by elite athletes to improve recovery and performance.

London calling
Mandarin Oriental, Mayfair will comprise 50 guestrooms and 77 private residences and feature the first restaurants in the UK by award-winning chef Akira Back.

Realised by architects Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners, the destination will mark Mandarin Oriental’s second destination in the capital.

Plans have already been unveiled for the operator’s third London outpost, Mandarin Oriental Bankside, London.

Due to open in 2028, the property will feature a luxury hotel, spa and branded residences on London's South Bank.
