As Global Wellness Day (GWD) celebrated its 15th year on 13 June 2026, I found myself reflecting not only on how far this movement has travelled, but on what the world is asking of wellness today.
When I first founded Global Wellness Day in Türkiye, my dream was simple: to remind people of the value of living well, even for one day. Fifteen years later, that dream has become a global, not-for-profit movement celebrated in more than 170 countries. But this year felt different.
#JoyMagenta
Under the theme #JoyMagenta, millions of people came together through complimentary wellness activities, choosing joy as an act of intention, community and self-care. From senior home visits to prenatal workshops, kids' wellness artwork sessions and gratitude walls to sound healing, movement, creative arts and cultural celebrations, this year reminded us that joy is not separate from wellness. Joy is wellness.
Across the world, some of the most respected names in hospitality and wellbeing brought this message to life.

Participation
In New York, Sanctum, the global mindful movement community, teamed up with Mandarin Oriental New York for a powerful experience where movement met meditation, energy found its flow and wellness was restored through strength, self-love and connection.
In the Maldives, Joali Being welcomed students from R Kinolhas School for a joyful half-day community experience focused on wellbeing, sustainability and ocean conservation. Joy Island Maldives celebrated with a floating breakfast experience. In Thailand, the Tourism Authority of Thailand highlighted the country’s wellness tourism offering under the #JoyMagenta theme, with activities including Thai botanicals, mindful movement, Muay Thai, Tai Chi, yoga, sound healing and herbal tea blending. Destination wellness resort Chiva-Som Hua Hin, celebrated GWD for the ninth consecutive year with its Community Social Responsibility (CSR) Medical Mission at Pa-la-U Noi Village near the Myanmar–Thailand border, for underprivileged communities.
Beyond hospitality, global brands also embraced the message. Garmin continued its long-standing support of the celebration with its special GWD challenge badge, inspiring users to take a step toward better wellbeing. Intentional Wellness Brands, the parent brand behind wellness companies Earthlite, Living Earth Crafts, Continuum Pedicure Spas and Tara Spa Therapy, marked the occasion by announcing the completion of a US$1 million (€920,000, £780,000) solar energy installation at its California headquarters, reducing operating emissions by nearly 90 per cent.
Reflections
What moved me most was not only the scale of the celebration – it was the sincerity. People walked, danced, breathed, created, gave thanks and came together.
This year, GWD reminded me that joy is not something we create only when life is easy. It is something we choose, protect, and share even when the world feels heavy.
I learned that people everywhere are longing not only to be healthier, but to feel more human again. In every country, every celebration, every smile, every dance, every moment of togetherness, I saw that joy has the power to soften stress, open hearts and reconnect us to what truly matters.
After 15 years of Global Wellness Day, I believe more than ever that wellness begins with the simplest question: How can I make life better, for myself and for someone else, today?
Because sometimes, one joyful moment shared with sincerity can become a powerful force for healing, hope and human connection.
