Aman is planning to debut its sister hotel brand Janu in the heart of Tokyo in an urban redevelopment project, called Toranomon-Azabudai development.

Janu was unveiled in 2020 with a fresh philosophy based on social connection, equilibrium and human interaction.

Janu Tokyo will comprise 120 luxury guest rooms and suites and occupy a prime position facing the project’s central square within a building identified as the B-2 District Tower.

The hotel will be designed by Denniston under the leadership of Jean-Michel Gathy and house a 3,500sq m spa featuring extensive wellness facilities, plus six dining outlets and bars.

All Janu spas will be designed to facilitate social connection and equilibrium through extensive hydro and thermal offerings intended to be used as social spaces, while hotel design will focus on space and light.

Plans have been confirmed for a further two Janu destinations in Montenegro and Saudi Arabia.

Aman has also revealed details about its first residence-only destination – called Aman Residences, Tokyo – which will be located in the same development as Janu Tokyo.

91 urban residences designed by Yabu Pushelberg will be on offer, as well as lifestyle services and a residents-only 1,400sq m Aman Spa with panoramic city views.

The residences will claim the top 11 floors (54th to 64th floor) of a magnificent, soaring tower – one of three in the development.

Claimed to be taller than any other residential property in central Tokyo, the building, known as A District Tower, is designed by the architects of Malaysia’s iconic Petronas Towers, Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects.

As an 8.1-hectare hub, the 30-years-in-the-making Toranomon-Azabudai project is due for completion in 2023.

The hotel and residences project is a product of collaboration between Aman and Japanese developer Mori Building Co.

Vladislav Doronin, chair and CEO of Aman and Janu, said: “Launching our first urban residences in Japan is a milestone moment in Aman’s history and speaks to our brand’s close relationship and symbiosis with this country and its incredibly special culture.

“Furthermore, it will provide the setting for Janu Tokyo. In this hub of culture and art, we want to connect guests to the heart of this vibrant community and offer a chance for creative expression.”
